Safety

Alice is generally safe, you just need to be a little street wise and don't walk on own after 9pm.

Most aboriginal people you see around will be friendly and say hello and maybe ask the time. We have never had an issue. Some people may try and haggle you for a dollar - you can simply politely decline.

Don't leave vehicles parked on the road overnight. They will be safe parked inside the gate/fence/enclosure. The few times we've had the troopy parked on the road it has been broken into.

Drink a lot! It's really dry up here and not uncommon to experience a headache the first few days. Hydrate.

Program

It is going to be a weekend of wedding fun activities as follows:

1. Friday 26th June dinner for all to meet and catch up informally at Monte's  from 5.30pm. Beer on tap, yummy burgers and chips and play stuff for kids. I've booked tables out the back near stage.

2. Saturday 27th June at 11am George and Dave's wedding ceremony at Simpsons Gap. Followed by lunch at 1 Gall St, Eastside.

3. Sunday 28th June 12 noon BBQ/picnic lunch at Hugh River (exact location will be advised).

We would love to know if you plan to come to the Sunday lunch so we can better organise catering. Thank you :-)

Art

Artists love Alice and creativity flourishes in our community - a byproduct of living remote and being surrounded by an incredibly ancient powerful stunning landscape.

Those interested in art would be recommended to visit:

1. the wonderful Siri Omberg siriomberg.com.au who drew the Hakea lorea (Corkwood) on the wedding invitation. Her studio is in the back of her garden at 3 Mueller St Eastside and open on Saturday from 9-5pm. She sells jewellery, African goodies and art work.

2. Papanya Tula Gallery papunyatula.com.au in the Todd Mall sells art produced by an artist cooperative formed in 1972 that is owned and operated by Aboriginal people from the Western Desert. The paintings are exquisite, produced ethically and sold by very knowledgeable people who also happen to be friends. Make sure you introduce yourself to Paul Sweeney, Lizzi and Ben!

3. Tjanpi Weavers tjanpi.com.au is a non for profit social enterprise for aborginial women who make baskets, sculptures, and jewellery. If you want an authentic feel good Central Australian momento this is your place. prepare to pay :-)

Presents

We seriously do not want any presents, your presence is more than enough.

It is really expensive to travel here and stay here so please do not give us anything.

We feel honoured that you have come all this way to see us so please no presents.

And the same goes for all you locals - no presents please. You've all chipped in in some way (this wedding really is a massive team effort) so your time and effort and presence is your contribution.

Thank you. I'm getting excited! This wedding weekend is going to be awesome!!
